Approach to Mathematics
Curriculum
Our teaching approach is based
on consistent logically interconnected Math instruction that moves steadily from
easier subjects to more advanced concepts. We combine conceptual learning with
practice and exercise, necessary to ensure fluent, almost automatic problem
solving skills.
At the same time, as we believe in the intellectual fun. To that end,
entertaining and challenging logical problems are incorporated in every lesson,
starting from Kindergarten. We offer challenging problems from state, national
and international math competitions at the appropriate grade levels. We will
provide an opportunity and encourage our students to participate in the optional
internal Math competition within the school as well as in State and National
math competitions.
The emphasis of the instruction for children aged K-5 is on developing logical
thinking and math skills early, while making math instruction fun that our
students love to come back to every week. The curriculum for middle and high
school continues developing the necessary math skills at a higher level, and
includes requirements of SAT I and SAT II Math as early as in grade 6. In
addition, we offer concentrated SAT prep classes for high school students who
have not been previously exposed to our program.
In addition to Math classes, our Chess Instruction and "Formulas for Drawing"
Art course are designed to further enhance logical thinking skills, while
teaching students to play chess or draw.
Our math curriculum uses a combination of the best European and American
approaches and is based on existing time-proven Math curriculum from Russian
School of Mathematics (RSM). We constantly work to continue improving and
enriching it on an on-going basis (read about curriculum, classes and success
story of RSM in www.RussianSchool.com.
Math Classes

Kids and Numbers.
Elementary Math 1-5. Entertaining and
challenging math program for grades K-1 is designed to turn on the natural
children's curiosity and awaken love to mathematics. Math for grades 2-5
includes operations with whole numbers, negative numbers, fractions, ratios and
decimals, beginning of Algebra (algebraic notations and solution of simple
linear equations) and Geometry (2D and 3D shapes, perimeter and area) as well as
a variety of entertaining logical problems and puzzles. Click here for curriculum outline.
Pre-Algebra, Introduction to Algebra, Algebra Levels 1 and 2.
Algebra for grades
6 and up covers a sequence of topics traditionally included in Pre-Algebra,
Algebra I and II: linear equations and systems, monomials and polynomials,
rational algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities involving absolute
values, quadratic equations, beginning of analysis of functions and graphs. We
continue challenging our students with logical problems and puzzles and problems
taken from math Olympiads. Click here for curriculum outline.
Geometry.
Introduction to Geometry and Geometry 1 courses cover planar Euclidean
geometry with specific emphasis on rigorous theorem proofs and problem solving.
Geometry 2 covers 3D geometry as well as geometric aspects of trigonometry.

Pre-Calculus and Calculus 1 courses includes, analysis of key functions and their graphs,
functional trigonometry, logarithms, elements of analytical geometry, vectors,
polar and complex coordinates, as well as an introduction to limits and series.
